UTSA to close out regular season on road at Charlotte, Rice

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will close out the regular season on the road as the Roadrunners visit Charlotte on Thursday, Nov. 10, and Rice on Saturday, Nov. 12. The Roadrunners have already clinched a spot at the conference tournament and await the final announcement by Conference USA on Saturday night.

With the Roadrunners pair of wins over the weekend, UTSA ties for second in the standings with Marshall and Southern Miss with a 9-3 conference mark. UTSA and Rice met three weeks ago in the Alamo City and the Roadrunners notched the sweep over the Owls.

UTSA has fallen in the rankings and are hitting a league fifth-best .242 clip but holding opponents to a .177 attack percentage, which is best for second. UTSA also tops the conference in aces per set with 1.70.

Dajana Boskovic continues to lead the charge for the Roadrunners with a league-best and NCAA 11th-best 4.65 kills per set. Jessica Waldrip and Shelby Williams also represent UTSA in their respective categories. Waldrip averages a conference fifth-best 9.40 assists per set and a ninth-best 0.29 service aces per set. Williams ranks fifth with 0.37 aces per frame.

The Roadrunners will first face the 7-21 Charlotte 49ers that sit at the bottom of the conference standings with a 1-11 mark. The 49ers lead the conference defensively as they boast league bests of 2.68 blocks and 16.04 digs per set.

Janell Sparks leads the offense with 2.66 kills per set. On the other side of the ball, Anna Henderson leads the team with 132 blocks for 1.28 per set, while Shelby Green adds 4.11 digs per set.

In the second meeting of the season, UTSA will head to Houston to wrap up the regular season. Rice owns a 17-11 overall record and 9-4 mark in C-USA that puts them fifth in the standings. The Owls also have hosting duties for the conference tournament.

Rice will play just one match this week and are coming off two straight losses to No. 21 WKU and Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles rallied back from being down two sets to defeat the Owls in five.

Chelsey Harris leads the Owls with 3.40 kills per set and boasts a .306 hitting percentage with 0.63 blocks per set. Leah Mikesky adds 3.24 kills and 2.67 digs per set.
