SAN ANTONIO — UTSA had five players reach double figures to lead the Roadrunners to a 91-67 victory against Trinity in their final exhibition game of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
Loryn Goodwin led all scorers with a double-double, as she registered 21 points and 10 assists and added four steals and four rebounds. Tesha Smith chipped in with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Carlie Heineman had her second double-digit performance of the exhibition slate with 14 points. Tija Hawkins netted 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and grabbed five boards and Timea Toth scored 10 for UTSA with seven rebounds.
UTSA drew first blood as its first three shots of the game came from behind the three-point line. Heineman scored six of the first nine points for the Roadrunners.
The visiting Tigers stayed within reach through the first 10 minutes of action as the Roadrunners held a 21-15 advantage.
The Roadrunners nearly doubled its score by halftime and led Trinity 43-31. Within the first 45 seconds of action of the second quarter, the Tigers were within four at the 21-17 mark but an 11-2 run by UTSA had the home team on top 32-19. The Roadrunners led by as many as 16 with 1:33 on the clock on jump shot by Hawkins.
The pace slowed down out of the intermission but UTSA remained on top 61-49 by the end of the third quarter. The Roadrunners advantage held the rest of the way as they put up 30 points in the final quarter and held Trinity to just 18 points.
UTSA will begin its regular season action next Friday, Nov. 11, when the Roadrunners host Angelo State at 7 p.m.
