UTSA to travel north to Oklahoma for three-day Nike Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA volleyball team will make its first out-of-state trek this weekend as the Roadrunners will compete at the three-day Nike Invitational, which will be hosted by Oklahoma.

UTSA's hot start was put to a halt this past weekend at the American Campus Classic hosted by No. 3 Texas when the Roadrunners suffered three straight losses. After a great performance against the third-ranked Longhorns, UTSA went the distance with Miami (Fla.) and fell 15-12 in the deciding set. The following day, Army made quick work of UTSA for a sweep to close the weekend.

The Roadrunners remain the top team in Conference USA in service aces, averaging 2.14 per set, and maintain a third-best .265 hitting percentage behind WKU and Southern Miss.

Dajana Boskovic continues to shine for UTSA with her team-bests of 4.28 kills and 2.67 digs per set. The senior outside also boasts a second-best 0.83 bocks per frame. Meanwhile, Jessica Waldrip helps the Roadrunners' .265 attack percentage with her 9.33 assists per set. At the net, freshman Kara Teal continues to impress as she averages 1.00 blocks per set, while adding 1.82 kills per set.

UTSA has previously matched up with all three teams on the Roadrunners slate this weekend. The Roadrunners will take on host Oklahoma on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. and will return the following day to face former Southland Conference foe Lamar at 4 p.m. UTSA will end the weekend with Ohio at 10 a.m.

OU welcomes its opponents with an unscathed mark at 7-0 and received votes in this week's AVCA Division I Coaches Poll. The Sooners currently own the nation's best hitting percentage of .368 and are holding opponents to a .140 clip, which is best for 43rd in the country.

Lamar (0-6) and Ohio (2-5) combine for a 2-11 record heading into the weekend. Ohio recently picked up its only wins at the Black and Gold Invitational with victories over Wofford and Appalachian State.
