SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to keep its Conference USA unbeaten record intact this weekend when the Roadrunners host North Texas on Friday, Sept. 30, and then travel to El Paso to face UTEP on Sunday, Oct. 2.
The Roadrunners (10-3, 1-0 C-USA) opened C-USA play last Sunday and swept Southern Miss to begin league action. Both of the Runners' opponents this weekend boast a 1-1 record in C-USA and tie for fifth in the standings.
UTSA heads into Friday's contest riding a seven-match win streak and with the second-best hitting percentage in C-USA with a .284 clip, which also ranks 17th in the nation.
Senior Dajana Boskovic leads the charge contributing a league-best 4.93 kills per set, which is best for seventh in the country. Boskovic ranks in the top-50 in multiple categories, including points per set (8th/5.51), attacks per set (33rd/11.11) total kills (43rd/222) and points (45th/248.0).
Fellow classmate Jessica Waldrip is working her way up the ranks as she's averaging a C-USA fourth-best 10.22 assists per set and adds 0.36 service aces per frame. The New Braunfels native has collected five matches of 40-plus helpers this season.
Defensively, sophomore Shelby Williams paces the team with 3.09 digs per set (143 digs) while Tessa Dahnert contributes 0.96 blocks per set (43.0 blocks).
North Texas makes the trek to the Alamo City with a 7-10 overall record. The Mean Green are scheduled to take on the Roadrunners and Louisiana Tech over the weekend.
NT is coming off a sweep of FIU and had one of its own recognized in the conference's weekly awards. Middle blocker Emma Eakin was recognized as the freshman of the week after totaling 31 kills and seven blocks.
Closing out the weekend with UTEP, the Miners have only one match scheduled this week. In the Miners' last time out, UTEP (3-10) defeated UAB in five for its third win of the season.
UTEP leads the league in digs per set (16.57) and is led by Macey Austin's 2.68 kills per set. Austin, along with Lindsey Larson, are the only Miners with 100-plus kills this season.
