SAN ANTONIO — In its second week of competition, the UTSA volleyball team will head up IH-35 for the American Campus Classic hosted by third-ranked Texas Sept. 1-3. The Roadrunners will take on Texas, Miami (Fla.) and Army West Point at Gregory Gymnasium.
UTSA (3-0) started the season off hot as they captured the SMU Doubletree Classic crown last weekend, marking the second straight season that the Roadrunners open undefeated. Senior Dajana Boskovic was named tournament MVP while Jessica Waldrip and Marijeta Runjic also earned spots on the all-tournament team.
The Roadrunners hit a weekend-best .416 against Montana and put them at a .306 attack percentage (third C-USA) for the weekend while holding opponents to a NCAA 23rd best .104 clip. The team also registered a pair of matches in double figure aces and rank sixth in the nation in aces (28) and aces per set (2.80).
Freshman Kara Teal made an immediate impact on the team as she registered 10 blocks and 16 kills, which included a season-best nine kills and back-to-back performances of four blocks.
Offensively, Boskovic leads the pack averaging 4.13 kills per set, to go with 3.38 digs and 0.88 blocks per frame. Fellow senior Jessica Waldrip helps the team's .306 hitting percentage with her 10.89 assists per set and is tied for second on the squad with five aces.
Boskovic and Waldrip lead the team in digs with 27 while Teal adds her 10 blocks for a team best.
UTSA will face a trio of teams over the weekend, including two in first-time meetings. The Roadrunners will meet with No. 3 Texas for the seventh time in school annals, while Miami and Army West Point will be a first-ever.
