Roadrunners in search of three-peat at this weekend's Conference USA Championships

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA's men's track & field team will begin postseason competition this weekend when it competes at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. The four-day meet is scheduled to get underway on Thursday with the two-day decathlon at at Dean A. Hayes Soccer & Track Stadium on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University and the Roadrunners are the two-time defending meet champions.

The first field event final is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday with the hammer and the 10,000 meters is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. later that night. Selected field event finals are slated to start at 3 p.m. on Saturday, the track preliminary heats will be contested beginning an hour and 15 minutes later and the 3,000m steeplechase will wrap up the third day of competition. Sunday's action will kick off at 3 p.m. with the remainder of the field events and the running finals will start 40 minutes later (click here for the complete meet schedule).

Two Roadrunners currently rank among the top 10 nationally in the 400m hurdles.

Jurmarcus Shelvin stands in sixth place with his personal-best time of 50.21 he registered at the Ricardo Romo Invitational back on March 26, while Randy Bermea is 10th with his career-best clocking of 50.56, which came the following weekend at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The pair owns the top two times in C-USA this spring.

Meanwhile, Adrian Riley is just outside the top 25 in the decathlon standings. The sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica, set a personal record with his 7,190 points at the Ricardo Romo Invitational, a performance that stands 26th nationally and fifth on the program's all-time chart. Riley currently ranks second in the league in his specialty event in addition to being fourth in the long jump (23-11/7.29m).

Several other UTSA athletes also can be found throughout the conference standings. In addition to leading three events, Roadrunners also reside in second place in four disciplines and third in another four events.

Dusan Makevic sits atop the 3,000m steeplechase rankings with his career-best time of 8:52.86 and UTSA's other leader is Levi Jordan, who paces three Roadrunners that are among the top five in the discus with his career-best measurement of 172-0 (52.43m). Victor Perez (PR 170-9/52.04m) and Kelsey Benoit (PR 166-0/50.59m) rank second and fourth, respectively.

In the shot put, Benoit (PR 58-1 ¼/17.71m) and Tyler Finke (55-5/16.89m) are second and third, respectively.

Other Roadrunners in the top three include Perez in the hammer (3rd/192-5/58.64m), Patrick Prince in the 110m hurdles (3rd/PR 14.03) and Jerrod Young in the pole vault (PR 15-5/4.70m).

UTSA has won six conference team titles, including five since the 2008 campaign, and a total of 64 individual/relay crowns in its history. The Roadrunners will be looking to extend its streak of at least one indoor or outdoor title to 11 seasons this weekend.
