SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will begin its final home stand of the season on Wednesday when it hosts Incarnate Word in a makeup game from earlier in the season at 6 p.m.
In the last meeting between the squads, the Cardinals (12-35) posted a 5-3 victory over the Roadrunners (15-31). UTSA took an early 2-0 lead through six innings, but UIW scored four of its five runs in the last three innings en route to the win.
The Roadrunners head into Wednesday's contest on a four-game losing streak after being swept by then-No. 17 Florida Atlantic last weekend.
Despite the losing skid, UTSA a few single-season records that could possibly be broken or set this week. Senior Matt Hilston has walked 51 times this season and is two away from the setting the single-season mark that was set by Brent Houtchens in 1995. Hilston is also three away from the national lead.
Offensively, Jason Serchay and Bryan Arias sit atop the season stat sheet. Serchay owns a .304 batting average, while Arias sits at .301.
Incarnate Word has lost three straight with its last win coming against Lamar in Southland Conference action. Central Arkansas swept the Cardinals in their last outing this past weekend and they were outscored 50-14 over the weekend.
Brance Kahle has the Cardinals' top bat with a .288 average. He is second on the team with 45 hits, including nine extra base hits, 13 runs scored and a team-best 27 RBIs.
Closer Lance Moszkowicz leads UIW pitching staff with a 4.37 ERA in 47.1 innings of action. He has appeared in 26 games and compiled a 1-4 record with a team-best seven saves.
