SAN ANTONIO — Louisiana Tech rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the ninth to take Sunday's series finale to extra innings, but Bryan Arias' single through the right side plated Trent Bowles in the 11th and gave UTSA a 5-4 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Roadrunners (15-27, 6-15 C-USA) led the entire way until the Bulldogs (27-14, 12-9 C-USA) came back with their two runs in the ninth to tie the game.
Zeros went across the scoreboard in the 10th with only one hit coming from UTSA on C.J. Pickering's two-out single.
Louisiana Tech threatened to score in the 11th with J.D. Perry on third after he led off the inning with a base hit through the left side. Back-to-back sacrifice bunts moved him around the bases, but Patrick Herbelin got Raphael Gladu to swing and miss to end the threat.
In the bottom of the inning, Bowles reached on a one-out single and he then moved over on Skyler Valentine's walk. Two batters later, Arias sent one flying through right side, which brought Bowles home with the game-winning run.
UTSA totaled 12 hits on the day with five of the nine in the starting lineup registering two.
Herbelin was the pitcher of record as he earned the win in 2.2 scoreless innings of action. The senior surrendered just one hit and did not walk a batter.
Braden Bristo was charged with the loss in his one-third inning on the mound.
The Roadrunners scored in the first on Straub's sacrifice fly.
UTSA then held Louisiana Tech scoreless through the first three innings before the Bulldogs tied the score.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Roadrunners scored on Ben Brookover's bloop single to center to break the tie and they later scored a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to make it 4-2.
Straub scored the first run of the sixth on Pickering's one-out single and Mason George scored on a wild pitch.
UTSA will be back in action on Tuesday, May 3, when it hosts I-35 rival Texas State. The third meeting of the season is scheduled for 6 p.m.
