SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will return to action this weekend at the Triton Invitational. The two-day meet, which will take place on the campus of UC San Diego, is scheduled to begin on Friday morning.
More than 1,500 athletes, led by Olympic and World Champions, will compete this weekend. All the action is scheduled to get underway at 11:30 a.m. (CT) on Friday with the women's discus and hammer along with all sections of the pole vault, while the remaining events will be contested beginning at the same time on Saturday (click here for the complete meet schedule).
The Roadrunners men come into the weekend with four athletes that own marks that rank among the top 25 in the country.
Jurmarcus Shelvin (50.21/t-6th) and Randy Bermea (50.56/t-8th) are in the top 10 in the 400-meter hurdles, while Adrian Riley stands 19th in the decathlon (7,190) and Dusan Makevic is 23rd in the 3,000m steeplechase (8:52.86).
Shelvin and Makevic also sit atop the Conference USA standings and they are joined there by Levi Jordan, who has the league's top discus mark (171-0/52.12m) this season.
Meanwhile, the women are led by Angel Sifuentes, who leads the circuit in the javelin with her season-best measurement of 147-2 (44.87m). Stephanie Wangui ranks among the top five in two events, as she stands second in the 1,500m (4:28.15) and fourth in the 800m (2:08.84). UTSA also boasts the conference's second-ranked 1,600m relay squad (3:39.01).
