UTSA to battle in-town rival Incarnate Word on Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will take on in-town rival Incarnate Word on Tuesday. Originally scheduled for 6 p.m., the mid-week contest has been moved up to 2 p.m. due to forecasted inclement weather in the Alamo City.

The Roadrunners (12-19) took one game from Marshall this past weekend, but they dropped their fourth consecutive Conference USA series.

Ryan Stacy's single scored the winning run in Saturday's 5-4 victory and Andre Shewcraft collected his fourth win of the season, which ranks fourth in the league.

UTSA is led offensively by Jason Serchay. The designated hitter is batting at a .324 clip with a .405 slugging percentage. Meanwhile, Skyler Valentine, who had led the team for most of the season, is batting .301 average with team bests in hits (37), runs scored (23) and total bases (53).

On the mound, weekend starter Aaron Burns leads the Roadrunners pitching staff with a 3.96 ERA in 50 innings of action. Burns is 3-3 on the season in nine appearances (all starts).

Incarnate Word (8-24) will make the short trek to the Bird Bath with a 1-15 mark on the road this spring.

The Cardinals are coming off a Southland Conference series loss to Nicholls. UIW won the second game of the series by a score of 7-5.

Leading the way for Incarnate Word is Braden Martin, who sports a .324 batting average. Martin has collected 23 hits, including four doubles, with 10 runs, seven RBIs and seven walks. Brance Kahle adds a .303 mark with a team-best 30 hits, six doubles and 20 RBIs.

Getting the start for the Cardinals will be right-handed pitcher Cody Allen. The freshman, who will be making his second start of the year, owns a 4.26 ERA in 19 innings of action.
