Texas State outlasts Roadrunners on Tuesday night, 13-10

SAN MARCOS — UTSA and Texas State combined for 25 hits, including six home runs, but the Bobcats came out on top with a 13-10 victory on Tuesday night.

Texas State (19-10) broke away from the final tie in the seventh inning and tacked on an insurance run in the eighth to even the season series against the Roadrunners (11-17).

Quinn Atwood was the pitcher of record as he pitched 1.1 innings in relief. Atwood struck out one and allowed one hit. Meanwhile, Pasquale Mazzoccoli earned his fifth save of the year in his one inning of action.

Derek Craft was charged with the loss in 1.1 innings on the mound. He gave up two runs on three hits and walked one.

UTSA drew the final tie at 10 in the sixth off Mason George's first home run of the season. George's two-run shot scored Skyler Valentine after he led off the inning with a walk.

The high-scoring affair began early on after both teams scored four runs in the first and UTSA followed with two in the second and Texas State five. Through the first two innings, four home runs were recorded with the Bobcats notching three.

In the third inning, the Roadrunners plated another two runs to make it 9-8 and held the Bobcats scoreless in the home half.

Two innings later, Texas State blasted its fourth home run of the game on Ryan Newman's second of the night, 10-8.

In the last two innings of play, Texas State combined for three runs for the win.

The Bobcats outhit UTSA 14-11 and committed three miscues to the Roadrunners one.

Bryan Arias collected his sixth multi-hit game of the season as he went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

UTSA will return home this weekend when it hosts Marshall in a three-game Conference USA series. Friday's opener is scheduled for 6 p.m.
