Roadrunners to travel to Sunshine State for pair of weekend matches

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will hit the road and head to the Sunshine State for a pair of matches in South Florida. The Roadrunners will face Florida Atlantic on Friday and will follow that match with a Sunday matinee at FIU.

UTSA heads to Florida boasting a 16-7 overall record and a 7-2 mark in league play to place them second in the standings behind No. 22 Western Kentucky. UTSA swept its last two opponents at home and the league office recognized three Roadrunners this past week. The Roadrunners swept all but one award. Dajana Boskovic (offensive player of the week), Daniella Villarreal (co-defensive player of the week) and Amanda Gonzales (freshman of the week) were all recognized for their efforts.

UTSA continues to hold the second-best hitting percentage in the league with a .254 clip, which is best for 41st in the NCAA. The Roadrunners are also holding its opponents to a .167 attack percentage (4th C-USA/43rd NCAA).

Since its inception in 1983, the Roadrunners entered its 32nd year of competition with a compiled record of 582-487 and are two wins away from reaching the programs 600th win.

The Roadrunners will be meeting with Florida Atlantic (15-8, 7-4 C-USA) and FIU (13-9, 7-4 C-USA) for just the third time in program history. Both teams are tied for fourth in the league standings and are dependent on the weekend’s results with just a few weeks left in the regular season.

Florida Atlantic welcomes UTSA off a pair of losses but rank in the top-30 in the NCAA in four statistical categories. The Owls rank 14th in assists per set, 17th in kills per set, 21st in opponent hitting percentage and 26th in digs per set.

After winning two straight, FIU suffered a five-set loss to Middle Tennessee this past Sunday. Despite the loss, the Panthers are undefeated at home with a 5-0 record.

Statistically in the league, FIU sits in the lower half but leads the conference in blocks per set with 2.57.
