IRVING — UTSA recorded a pair of wins over the week to move the team up to second in the Conference USA standings and were led by a trio of Roadrunners who were selected as offensive, co-defensive and freshman of the week, the league office announced on Monday.
Earning offensive player of the week for the Roadrunners was Dajana Boskovic. The 6-foot-1 outside hitter averaged 4.17 kills per set, to go with 2.00 digs, 0.83 blocks and 0.67 aces per frame. Boskovic started the week with 12 kills and a .524 (12-1-21) hitting percentage against Charlotte. She then followed that performance with 13 kills and a career-best three aces against UTEP. She has now hit above .300 eight times this year and has reached double-figure kills on 16 occasions.
Meanwhile, Daniella Villarreal earned her first honor of the season, as she was named co-defensive player of the week. Villarreal set a season-best of 16 digs against Charlotte and then shattered her career-best with 25 digs to end the week against UTEP. The New Braunfels native averaged 6.83 digs per set over the week.
Setter Amanda Gonzales picked up her second award of the season, as she was tabbed freshman of the week. Gonzales totaled 85 of the team’s 88 assists through two matches and averaged 14.17 per frame. Gonzales has recorded 40-plus assists through four straight matches this season and registered her seventh double-double against Charlotte with 41 assists and 10 digs. She helped UTSA to a .268 team hitting percentage.
UTSA will hit the road for a pair of road matches in the Sunshine State this weekend, starting with a Friday matchup at Florida Atlantic.
