UTSA, Charlotte play to 1-1 draw in home finale on Sunday

SAN ANTONIO — Harper Luczka’s first collegiate goal came in the 85th minute to erase a 1-0 deficit and UTSA and Charlotte played two scoreless overtimes for a 1-1 draw in the Roadrunners’ home finale on Sunday afternoon at Park West Athletics Complex.

Luczka’s goal pushed UTSA (1-14-2, 1-7-1 C-USA) to its sixth overtime match of the fall, four of which have come in Conference USA play. Sam Batley picked up an assist on the equalizer for her team-leading seventh point, while Isabella Sanchez and Michelle Cole combined for five saves.

Meanwhile, the 49ers (6-11-1, 2-6-1 C-USA) played their third overtime contest this season and finished the weekend 1-0-1 after a victory at UTEP on Friday. Abby Coffey and Annika McHenry combined for eight saves, while league points leader Martha Thomas assisted the team’s lone goal.

Both teams battled a 20 mile-per-hour wind, however both goals were scored against it.

Rebecca Beatty put the visitors on the board in the 30th minute as she collected her third goal of the season. The junior took a pass from Thomas and beat Sanchez for a lead that Charlotte would not relinquish until the final minutes of regulation.

In the 85th minute, Batley connected on a long pass to Livecchi on the right side of the goal. The junior took a few dribbles and tapped a pass back to the middle where Luczka found the back of the net with her first goal.

The final five minutes ticked away with no score to set up the extra sessions, where the teams combined for three shots and no goals for a 1-1 draw.

UTSA will conclude its 10th season of play at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, when it travels to Houston for a 7 p.m. matchup with Rice (9-5-2, 5-2-1 C-USA).
