SAN ANTONIO — UTSA rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of goals in the second half, but Grace Haverly’s header in the 102nd minute lifted Old Dominion to a 3-2 double-overtime victory on Friday night at Park West Athletics Complex.
Brianna Livecchi and Kauwela Neal provided the offense with goals for the Roadrunners (1-14-1, 1-7 C-USA), who dropped their fifth one-goal game in Conference USA action. Isabella Sanchez came in off the bench to record four saves.
Meanwhile, Erin Kinz made five saves for the Monarchs (7-9, 5-2 C-USA), who improved to 3-6 on the road.
Old Dominion jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals from Deirdre Bradley and Madison Hogan.
In the 20th minute, Bradley boomed a shot from near midfield that took a big bounce over the head of goalie Katherine Tesno and into the back of the net. The advantage doubled to 2-0 in the 33rd minute when Hogan followed a rebound from a save and tapped it in for her fifth goal of the fall.
However, the Roadrunners rally started in the 54th minute when Livecchi beat Kinz one-on-one following an Old Dominion turnover. The goal was the junior’s first of the season and it sliced the deficit in half.
Less than six minutes later, Neal connected on a shot from 30 yards out that sailed past Kinz in the upper-left corner of the goal to knot the score at 2-2.
Neither team was able to score for the final 30 minutes of regulation or in the first overtime session.
It took less than two minutes of the second overtime for the Monarchs to come up with the game-winner. Thyla Peterson lobbed a cross into the box that Haverly was able to head into the back of the net for the final 3-2 margin.
UTSA will host Charlotte (5-11, 1-6 C-USA) at 12 p.m. on Sunday. The Roadrunners will honor seniors Neal, Sabrina Gonzalez, Lauren Hodgdon and Savannah Struck prior to the match.
