SAN MARCOS — UTSA bounced back on the second day of the Delta Zeta Classic with a four-set victory (25-18, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19) against Big Ten opponent Indiana on Friday.
The Roadrunners, who improved to 5-1 on the young season, saw a pair of players reach double-figure kills with Marijeta Runjic registering a season-best 14, while Dajana Boskovic added 11.
Meanwhile, Jessica Waldrip matched a career-high with five winners and she also tallied 39 assists to go along with nine digs and three blocks.
UTSA hit .189 for the match and held Indiana (3-2) to a .078 attack percentage. For the third time this season, the Roadrunners tallied double-figure blocks with 10 and were led by Tessa Dahnert’s season-best of seven.
After opening the match with a 25-18 win over the Hoosiers, the Roadrunners were set back with a 25-18 loss in the second set.
In the third stanza, UTSA played from behind but used a 6-2 run to tie the score at eight. Both teams traded points, but the Roadrunners then capitalized on a Hoosiers error that resulted in three straight points, which made it 11-9.
Indiana managed to put a score on the board, but UTSA gained control once again and never looked back winning the third frame, 25-19.
The Roadrunners had a slow start in the fourth set but picked up momentum and went on a 9-1 run to take a 10-4 lead. UTSA held off the Hoosiers for the remainder of the stanza and got to match point on a kill by Runjic. On the following rally, Indiana faltered and handed the Roadrunners the 25-19 win.
UTSA will wrap up tournament play at 2 p.m. on Saturday against Texas Southern (0-3).
