BOULDER, Colo. — Zander Lozano tied for fifth place to help lead the UTSA men’s golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Boulder Country Club (7,110 yards/par 70).
Lozano entered the final round in a tie for eighth place and the sophomore from Fair Oaks Ranch jumped up three spots in the 75-man field after posting a 1-over-par 71 on Tuesday. After posting a 74-67 — 141 on Monday, he recorded four of his team-high 11 birdies in the final round in turning in the second straight and fourth overall top-10 finish of his UTSA career with his 2-over 212.
Brett Hogan tied for 21st with a 217. After opening with a 71 on Monday morning, the senior from Calgary had four of his nine birdies in the final round, his second straight 73.
Bryce Alley registered a 72 to close out a 221 (75-74) and tied for 35th, while J.J. Lindsey was one shot behind in a tie for 41st at 222 (70-75-77). Trace Morrow was 73rd (79-76-81—236).
The Roadrunners carded a final-round 293 and finished sixth with an 872 (290-289-293), just one shot behind Houston Baptist (871) and five behind Wichita State (867).
Colorado and UMKC shared the team title at 7-over 847, while Wyoming was third (858) in the 12-team field. Antoine Rozner of UMKC claimed individual medalist honors with a 2-under 208 (68-71-69).
The Roadrunners will return to the course on Oct. 5-6 when they travel to Vestavia Hills, Ala., to compete in the Jerry Pate National Invitational.
