Hogan guides UTSA to ninth place at Conference USA Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. — Brett Hogan fired a final-round 70 to help lead UTSA to ninth place at the Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday at Texarkana Country Club (6,869 yards/par 72).

Hogan entered the day in a tie for 52nd after posting a 79 and a 73 in the first two rounds. The junior from Calgary, Alberta, turned in the Roadrunners’ low score of the tournament with his 2-under-par effort that featured an eagle on the par-five seventh and four birdies. He finished with a 6-over 222 to move into a tie for 23rd in the 65-player field.

Garrison Lackey was three shots behind in a tie for 35th with a 72-75-78—225. The senior from Weslaco capped his UTSA career by registering four birdies, two eagles and an ace on the par-three 11th in Monday’s second round of the 54-hole event.

Bryce Alley finished in a tie for 42nd with a 75-72-79—226, while J.J. Lindsey and Zander Lozano rounded out the lineup in 53rd (75-75-79—229) and 59th (73-81-76—230), respectively.

The Roadrunners placed ninth with a 295-295-303—893, two shots ahead of Marshall (895).

North Texas' Juan Munoz captured individual medalist honors with a 69-72-70—211 to help the Mean Green to first place (861) through the end of stroke play and secure one of the top four spots in Wednesday’s match-play semifinals.

No. 30 UAB (868), UTEP (871) and Charlotte (872) also advanced and they were followed by Southern Miss (874), Middle Tennessee (888), Old Dominion (888) and Louisiana Tech (890) in the 13-team field.
