SAN ANTONIO — Dajana Boskovic notched a match-high 17 kills to pace UTSA to a 25-12, 25-22, 25-23 sweep of UAB on Friday.
The Roadrunners (17-7, 14-0 C-USA) stretced their winning streak to 14 matches, the last 13 of which have come in Conference USA play. UTSA now has won 21 consecutive C-USA regular season matches dating back to last season.
Boskovic was the only Roadrunner in double figures, while Dempsey Thornton was one kill and a dig shy of a double-double with nine of each to go along with a pair of blocks.
Meanwhile, Kylie Schott posted a .636 hitting percentage and the junior also ended the night with a team-leading six blocks.
Jessica Waldrip recorded her 11th double-double of the year with 37 assists and 10 digs.
The Blazers (6-22, 3-10 C-USA), who dropped their fifth straight outing, were held to four total team blocks after coming into the contest ranked second in the league.
The Roadrunners, who now are 13-1 when winning the first set, cruised through the opening frame. After jumping out to a 6-1 lead, UTSA made quick work of the Blazers, leading by as many as 13 at 24-11. A combo block by Boskovic and Schott sealed the opening-set win.
The two squads battled back and forth from that point, as the second stanza saw 12 ties and the third 13. UAB outhit the Roadrunners .231-.222 in the second frame, but four UTSA kills made the difference in the end. The Blazers attempted to overcome UTSA at the 23-22 mark on a Kiriana Hirini kill, but a Boskovic winner paired with a block by Megan Slan and Waldrip send the Birds into the locker room with a commanding 2-0 advantage.
The Roadrunners had to work their way from behind late in the third after trailing 19-17 following three consecutive points by UAB. A 4-1 run following a timeout gave UTSA a 21-20 lead, but three ties ensued. However, a Boskovic kill and miscue by the Blazers clinched the sweep.
Gabby Deshotel paced UAB with 10 kills.
The Roadrunners will play their final home match of the season at 1 p.m. on Sunday against FIU (6-20, 3-10 C-USA).
