SAN ANTONIO — After capturing a share of the Conference USA Regular Season Championship and earning the top seed at this weekend's C-USA Tournament, UTSA will take on eighth-seeded Charlotte at noon on Friday in the opening quarterfinal at Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Roadrunners (19-8) captured their second consecutive league title and are just one victory away from their fifth consecutive 20-win campaign under C-USA Coach of the Year Laura Neugebauer-Groff.
Six UTSA players were named to the league's postseason teams with C-USA Setter of the Year Jessica Waldrip, Dajana Boskovic and Dempsey Thornton headling the group.
Waldrip was joined by Boskovic and Thornton on the first team, while Annie Kunes and Kylie Schott were second-team honorees. Meanwhile, Marijeta Runjic was named to the All-Freshman Team.
UTSA faced Charlotte (17-16) once during the regular season and came away with a five-set victory in North Carolina. The 49ers forced a fifth set with a 25-21 win in the fourth, but they were unable to carry momentum to the final set, as the Birds won 15-11 by closing out the frame on a 5-0 run.
The winner of Friday's match will face either No. 4 seed Rice (21-9) or fifth-seeded Marshall (16-15) at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
