Neugebauer-Groff, Waldrip earn Conference USA postseason awards on Wednesday

IRVING — After seeing six Roadrunners land on the All-Conference USA teams on Tuesday, head coach Laura Neugebauer-Groff was named the league’s Coach of the Year and Jessica Waldrip was tabbed C-USA Setter of the Year on Wednesday.

Neugebauer-Groff led UTSA to a 19-8 regular season record, including a 15-1 mark in league play en route to the program's second consecutive C-USA regular season title. In just two years in the league, she has led the Roadrunners to a 28-2 record in conference play.

Other highlights of the campaign include the program's first-ever win against Texas A&M and, three weeks later, the Roadrunners defeated Baylor for the first time since 1990. UTSA also posted the second-longest winning streak in school history, 15 matches, from Sept. 20-Nov. 9.

Neugebauer-Groff has won 232 matches in her 13 seasons leading the Roadrunners and she is one victory shy of her fifth consecutive 20-win campaign.

Meanwhile, Waldrip has been a vital part of UTSA's success this fall.

She ranks first in C-USA matches in assists per set and has tallied a total of 1,083 on the year. A three-time league Setter of the Week this season, Waldrip has registered 15 matches of 40-plus helpers, including six performances of 50-plus. She holds a team-leading 11 double-doubles and twice has matched a career high 59 assists. Her 10.83 per set ranks 48th in the nation.

UTSA (19-8) is the top seed in this weekend's C-USA Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss., and it will face the eighth-seeded Charlotte (17-16) in the opening quarterfinal at noon on Friday.
