SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head men’s golf coach John Knauer announced Tuesday that he has signed Dylan Godfrey (Bryan, Texas/Bryan HS) and Sean Meehan (San Antonio, Texas/Johnson HS) to National Letters of Intent. The pair will join the Roadrunners beginning with the 2015-16 season.
“We are very excited to welcome Dylan Godfrey and Sean Meehan to our Roadrunner family,” Knauer said. “Both are very talented players with high character, and we have great expectations of things to come with their addition. The future is very bright for UTSA golf.”
Godfrey is an all-district performer and regional qualifier for Bryan High School. He finished as the district runner-up as a freshman in 2012 and fourth in 2013, and he carded his low prep round of 2-under-par 70 at the Morris Williams.
Godfrey has been ranked as high as the No. 5 senior in the state of Texas by Golfweek. He has posted six top-five finishes, including a win at The Woodlands Panther Trail, and posted a career-low 69 at the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course on the Texas Junior Golf Tour. Godfrey turned in five consecutive top fives — including a pair of runner-up showings —on the Legends Junior Tour and high school tournaments during Spring 2013. He also finished third at the prestigious Aggie Cup last January.
“Dylan comes to us from the Bryan-College Station area,” Knauer said. “He is a tireless worker who we expect to have an immediate impact on our program in multiple ways. He is a smart player with extensive tournament experience and his excellent work ethic will rub off on the other players.”
Meehan is an all-district and all-region performer and state qualifier for San Antonio Johnson High School, where he was a teammate of current UTSA freshman Christian De La Cruz. He helped the Jaguars finish sixth at the 2013 Class 5A State Tournament after carding a 78-74—152. He finished 17th with a 77-71—148 as an individual at the 2014 state meet.
Ranked in the top 100 nationally and top 10 in Texas by Golfweek, he has posted a pair of top-10 finishes on the amateur circuit this year, including a fourth-place showing at the Bluebonnet Championship after firing a pair of 69s and a sixth-place effort with a 71-70-73—214 at the Genesis Shootout. He was 18th (75-71-70-72—288) at the Junior PGA Championship. In 2013, Meehan turned in a trio of top 10s by finishing fourth (74-68—142) at the George Hannon Invitational, sixth (69-71—140) at the Texas Junior Masters and ninth (74-73-73—220) at the HP Byron Nelson.
“Sean has been one of the top performers in the San Antonio area for a while,” Knauer said. “He is also ranked in the top 100 nationally. We feel that he will bring a winning spirit to our squad, as he has competed at the highest levels throughout high school."
