EL PASO — The UTSA men’s golf team set four school records in a fifth-place effort at this weekend's Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational, which concluded on Sunday at Butterfield Trail Golf Club (par 72/7,307 yards).
The Roadrunners carded a 28-under-par 836 to break the previous school record 54-hole total of 846, which was set on a par-71 layout at the 2003 Nestle/Purina Classic. They also shattered the previous par-72 standard of 851 posted at the 2001 Aztec Invitational by 15 strokes.
UTSA opened the event with a program-record 21-under 267 on Friday, which beat the previous mark of 272 set on the par-71 Canebrake Golf Club course at the 2003 Southland Conference Championship. The Birds followed a 291 on Saturday with a 278 in the final round, which ranks as the second-best round to par in school annals.
Meanwhile, Brett Hogan eclipsed the UTSA record for low 54-hole total to par with an 11-under 205, a score that trails only Gibby Martens’ 203 on the par-70 Braeburn Golf Club layout at the 2002 Shocker Invitational. The junior from Calgary, Alberta, opened with a 67 and followed a 72 on Saturday with a career-low 66 that was highlighted by eagles after he chipped in on both the par-4 fifth and 15th holes. The 205 bettered his previous career best of 208 set at the 2013 Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate (par 71). Hogan finished eighth in the 84-player field for his third top 10 this fall and the fifth of his career.
Bryce Alley established a new UTSA record for low 36-hole total to par after opening the event with a career-best 65 on Friday and a 70 in round two, a performance that is just one shy of the 134 by Martens at the 2002 Shocker Invitational (par 70). The sophomore from Longview closed with a 74 and tied for 20th place with a career-low 209. Alley registered a team-high three eagles to go along with 11 birdies in posting his top finish of the fall.

Garrison Lackey was two shots back of Lindsey and in a tie for 39th after carding a 2-under 214. The senior from Weslaco fired rounds of 68, 75 and 71 and had 12 birdies on the weekend.
Zander Lozano posted an even-par 216 (71-74-71) to tie for 49th, while Reed Stegall tied for 57th (75-70-74—219) competing as an individual.
New Mexico State captured the team title with a 46-under 818 (272-271-275), followed by UMKC (819), Kansas (822) and Nevada (830). Host UTEP was six shots behind UTSA in sixth (836), while San Jose State (841), Colorado State (843), Texas State (847) and Western New Mexico (847) rounded out the top 10.
