Roadrunners in fifth place after two rounds of Price's "Give 'Em Five" Invitational

EL PASO — The UTSA men’s golf team slipped to fifth place after the second round of play at this weekend's Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Invitational, which was played on Saturday at Butterfield Trail Golf Club (par 72/7,307 yards).

The Roadrunners entered the second round with the lead after firing a school-record 21-under-par 267 on Friday. UTSA posted a 291 on Saturday behind a 2-under 70 from Bryce Alley and is in fifth in the 14-team field at 18-under 558.

New Mexico State sits atop the team leaderboard at 33-under 543 (272-271), followed by UMKC (545), Nevada (548) and Kansas (550).

Alley opened the 54-hole event with a career-best 65 that put him in a tie for second and he remains in contention in a tie for seventh at 9-under 135, five shots off the pace of 14-under 130 (63-67) set by Isaac Merry of New Mexico State. The sophomore from Longview posted a pair of eagles to go along with four birdies and he now has three eagles and nine birdies on the weekend.

Brett Hogan is four shots behind Alley in a tie for 21st at 5-under 139 (67-72), while J.J. Lindsey is tied for 35th at 2-under 142 (67-75). Garrison Lackey and Zander Lozano are tied for 41st (68-75—143) and 53rd (71-74—145), respectively. Reed Stegall, competing as an individual, also is tied for 53rd (75-70—145).

The final round is slated for Sunday.
