Roadrunners in fourth place after first day of Miramont Invitational

BRYAN — Brett Hogan and Garrison Lackey combined to shoot one-over-par and the UTSA men's golf team is in fourth place after the first round of the weather-shortened Miramont Invitational, which began on Monday at Miramont Country Club (par 72/7,174 yards).

Originally scheduled for 54 holes with 36 to be played on Monday, inclement weather in the morning forced tournament officials to shorten the tournament to 36 total holes with the final round still scheduled for Tuesday. It now is the Roadrunners' second event of the fall season to be cut short due to bad weather (Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational).

Despite the delayed start, Hogan and Lackey helped put UTSA in contention for a top-five showing. The Roadrunners turned in a 9-over-par 297 and are one shot behind third-place Texas State, seven back of Sam Houston State and 12 off the pace set by No. 43 Houston (285). UT Arlington (299), 42nd-ranked Southeastern Louisiana (299), Louisiana-Lafayette (300), Columbia (301), McNeese State (301) and Rice (302) round out the top 10 in the 13-team field.

Hogan, a junior from Calgary, Alberta, carded an even-par 72 on the strength of three birdies and is in a tie for eighth. He is just three shots behind day-one leader Louis Kelly of Louisiana-Lafayette and is in position to post his second top-10 finish of the campaign.

Lackey registered four birdies as part of a 3-under 33 on the front nine and finished with a 73. The senior from Weslaco is tied for 12th in the 76-man field and his five total birdies stand as the second-best total in the event.

Bryce Alley, J.J. Lindsey and Zander Lozano each fired a 76 and are in a tie for 41st.

The final round is slated to get underway with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
