VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — Brett Hogan tied for 15th place to lead UTSA to a tie for 10th at the Jerry Pate National Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Old Overton Country Club (par 70/7,228 yards).
Hogan led the Roadrunners for the second straight event by carding a 3-over-par 213 to finish in a five-way tie for 15th place in the 60-player field. The junior opened the 54-hole event with a 70 and 71 on Monday and he turned in a 72 on Tuesday that was highlighted by three birdies. The Calgary native registered 13 birdies during the tournament, which was the fourth-highest total in the field.
Zander Lozano tied for 30th after posting a 75-70-74—219, while Garrison Lackey was two shots behind his freshman teammate with a 74-75-72—221 for a tie for 38th. J.J. Lindsey tied for 46th (77-75-72—224) and Bryce Alley was 50th (81-73-72—226) to round out the UTSA lineup.
The Roadrunners counted a quartet of 72s in the final round en route to a 296-289-288—873 and tied Georgia State and Mississippi for 10th place. Alabama defended its team title with a 10-under 830, followed by Florida State (843), UNLV (849), UAB (852), Arkansas (853), Georgia Tech (856), Mississippi State (863), Charlotte (866) and Texas A&M (868).
UTSA will continue its fall season at next week's Sam Houston State/Rice Miramount Invitational in Bryan. The two-day tournament will begin on Monday, Oct. 13.
