VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — Led by a 1-over-par day from Brett Hogan, the UTSA men's golf team is in 11th place after the first two rounds of the Jerry Pate National Invitational, which teed off on Monday at Old Overton Country Club (par 70/7,228 yards).
Hogan sits in an eight-way tie for 10th place with 18 holes remaining after posting an even-par 70 in the opening round and a 71 in the afternoon. The junior from Calgary carded a 3-under 32 on the front nine during both rounds, writing down four birdies on that side in the morning and three more during the second 18. He added a combined three birdies on the back to give him 10 for the event, the third-highest total in the 60-player field.
Hogan, who is seeking his second straight top-10 finish, is seven shots off the pace set by Hank Lebioda of Florida State, Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech and Ben Wood of Mississippi State, who all shot 6-under 134.
Meanwhile, Zander Lozano is tied for 29th after rallying from a 75 in the opening round with a 70 in the afternoon. Garrison Lackey is four shots back of his freshman teammate in a tie for 43rd (74-75—149), while J.J. Lindsey and Bryce Alley are tied for 49th (77-75—152) and 53rd (81-73—154), respectively.
The Roadrunners posted a 296-289—585 and are just four shots behind Mississippi State (581) and five out of the three-way tie for seventh by Charlotte, Mississippi and Texas A&M. Host Alabama leads the field after recording a 7-under 553, followed by Florida State (563), Georgia Tech (563), UAB (569), UNLV (569) and Arkansas (569).
The final round is scheduled to get underway with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
