IRVING — After leading UTSA to a 2-1 record last week, Dempsey Thornton and Jessica Waldrip garnered Conference USA Offensive Player and Setter of the Week laurels, respectively, the league office announced on Monday.
Thornton totaled 52 kills last weekend for an average of 4.33 kills per frame. The Corpus Christi native paced the Roadrunners to a four-set victory on Saturday against Baylor, which was the program's first win over the Bears since 1990. She also matched a career high with four blocks against Baylor in addition to boasting a .320 attack percentage. The senior outside/middle hitter now has registered double figure kills in 10 of UTSA's 11 matches this fall.
Meanwhile, Waldrip posted consecutive 40-plus assist matches last weekend. She posted her fifth double-double of the season with 46 helpers and 11 digs, while also matching a career-best four blocks in Thursday's four-set triumph against Houston. Waldrip added a career-high four service aces on Saturday against Baylor.
The Roadrunners (4-7) will open C-USA play on Monday night at UTEP (2-9) at 7 p.m. (CT).
