Roadrunners to continue season-opening road trip at Delta Zeta Classic

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will make the trek north to San Marcos this weekend for the Delta Zeta Classic, which will be hosted by I-35 rival Texas State.

The Roadrunners (2-1) will face the Bobcats at 7 p.m. on Friday before returning to the court for an 11:30 a.m. matchup with Wichita State the following day.

UTSA is coming off a 2-1 weekend and second-place finish at last weekend's season-opening Texas A&M Invitational. The Roadrunners placed two players on the all-tournament team with Marijeta Runjic and Jessica Waldrip earning honors. UTSA picking up its first-ever victory against Texas A&M in Saturday's tournament finale.

Runjic led the squad this past weekend with 46 kills (3.83 kps), including a season-best 24 against Texas A&M. She was highlighted as one of ESPNU's Capital One Cup Impact Performances of the Week.

Jordan Kotara, Kylie Schott and Dempsey Thornton are all averaging more than two kills per set with Schott hitting a team-best .391. Meanwhile, Waldrip is dishing out 10.46 assists per stanza to go along with 0.62 services aces per frame.

The Roadrunners are averaging 18 digs per set and are led by reigning Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week Annie Kunes, who tallied 72 (5.54 dps), including a career-high 39 against the Aggies.
