MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Top seed UTSA will take on No. 4 seed Marshall in Saturday's first semifinal of the Conference USA Tournament. First serve in the second all-time meeting between the two programs is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Roadrunners (22-7) hit a tournament-record .506 in Friday’s sweep of eighth-seeded Southern Mississippi. C-USA Player of the Year McKenzie Adams downed a match-best 23 winners on just 36 attempts and fellow first-team all-conference honoree Dajana Boskovic added a dozen on only 20 swings to lead UTSA into the semifinals. Jessica Waldrip delivered 42 assists and Annie Kunes had a match-high 15 digs.
Marshall (16-15) advanced to the semifinals with a thrilling, five-set victory against North Texas (25-23, 15-25, 25-20, 29-31, 15-12). Laura Der led three players with double-digit kills with 22, while Elyse Panick and Cassie Weaver racked up 16 and 15, respectively. Sammie Bane added a double-double with 53 assists and 15 digs.
UTSA won the first meeting between the two programs three weeks ago in Huntington, W.Va. Adams set a career-high with 31 kills and Waldrip dished out a career-best 55 assists in the comeback, four-set victory (27-29, 25-18, 25-14, 27-25).
