UTSA overpowers Charlotte in Friday night sweep

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UTSA swept past last place Charlotte on Friday night to pick up its ninth win in 10 Conference USA matches by scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-10.

Preseason Conference USA Player of the Year McKenzie Adams again teamed with freshman Dajana Boskovic to form a dominate outside hitting combination.

Adams finished the night with 17 kills and 12 digs, while Boskovic reached double-digits with 11 winners hitting .579. Jessica Waldrip dished out 36 assists and dug 10 balls for her first career double-double and Annie Kunes had a team-high 13 digs for the Roadrunners (17-7, 9-1 C-USA).

Charlotte (10-15, 0-10 C-USA) was led by Taylor Cannon’s 11 kills.

In a tightly contested opening set, UTSA extended a 19-17 lead with a 6-2 closing spurt to take an early advantage. The Birds hit .412 and committed only two hitting errors.

It was the Roadrunners defense in the second set that enabled UTSA to take a 2-0 lead into intermission Lauren Muenchow was a part of all four team blocks, as the Roadrunners held Charlotte to a .061 hitting percentage.

UTSA raced to the finish in a dominant closing frame. The Roadrunners built a 21-7 lead and held the 49ers to a -.128 hitting percentage.

UTSA concludes its regular season road schedule on Sunday with a noon (CT) match at Marshall (14-12, 7-3 C-USA).
