UTSA sweeps Houston Baptist on Saturday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA bounced back from Friday's five-set loss to I-35 rival Texas State by sweeping Houston Baptist (25-13, 25-21, 25-19) on Saturday at the Convocation Center.

McKenzie Adams collected 16 kills and 11 digs for her 11th double-double of the season and freshman setter Jessica Waldrip matched her career high with 39 assists for the fourth time this season to lead UTSA (8-5).

The Roadrunners closed the opening frame by scoring 13 of the final 17 points. Adams connected for six winners and Waldrip dished out 19 helpers in leading UTSA’s offense to a .500 hitting percentage.

Trailing 7-5 in the second, Adams kept a point alive with her foot to spark a 5-0 run and keep the momentum rolling for the Roadrunners. The Schertz native, who ranks second nationally in kills per set, tallied another six winners in the set. Annie Kunes continues her strong season on the defensive end with nine of her match-high 26 digs, as the Huskies (5-8) managed to hit just .105.

The Roadrunners never trailed in the final set and cruised to triumph. Kunes amassed another 10 digs and Adams knocked down four kills to close out the match.

UTSA will travel to Waco on Tuesday to face Baylor (6-8) in their final non-conference match of the season. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
