UTSA to travel to Metroplex for Hilton Mavericks Classic

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will hit the road this weekend for three matches at the Hilton Mavericks Classic in Arlington.

The Roadrunners (4-4) open tournament play with a 7 p.m. tilt on Friday with host UT Arlington (4-3). They then will wrap up the event with a pair of Saturday contests beginning at 11 a.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-5) followed by a 4:30 duel with Mississippi Valley State (3-7).

UTSA will look to surpass the .500 mark for the first time this season following two highly-competitive weekend tournaments to open the year. Preseason Conference USA Player of the Year McKenzie Adams leads the way for the Roadrunners, as she has topped the 20-kill plateau in six matches this season to go along with seven double-doubles.

Adams has found a running mate recently in newcomer Dajana Boskovic. The freshman from Bilece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, has registered double-digit kills in her last three contests, including a career-high 14 in a four-set road victory at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday night.

Another freshman, Jessica Waldrip, has been the offensive catalyst at setter the last three outings by matching a career-high 39 assists in each contest.

UT Arlington owns a 27-17 record against the Roadrunners. Meanwhile, UTSA never has lost to the Islanders in 17 all-time meetings and it will be facing the Delta Devilettes for the first time in program history.
