SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head women's soccer coach Steve Ballard announced Thursday that Missy Strasburg has joined his program as an assistant coach effective immediately.
"We are very pleased and excited to have Missy join our coaching staff," Ballard said. "She has a great background as both a player and coach and brings a wealth of knowledge that will be a tremendous asset to our program. "
Since finishing her playing career at Gonzaga in 2001, Strasburg has worked as a soccer coach and sport administrator at the collegiate, high school and club levels. She comes to UTSA after one season as an assistant at Georgia Southern.
"I'm really grateful to Coach Ballard and Coach (Kristin) Boeker for the opportunity to join the staff and contribute to a successful program," Strasburg said. "I'm excited to be a part of a championship team and help add to the success that Steve and the players have built the last five years."
Strasburg was part of a rebuilding effort with the Eagles and helped the team increase its win total by four games in 2010. In addition, six players were named to the Southern Conference's all-academic squad, which was more than any other program at Georgia Southern.
Prior to her time with the Eagles, Strasburg worked on the staff at Washington and was a volunteer assistant at UNC Greensboro during the 2009 season. She helped guide the Spartans to a 13-7 record and SoCon Championship with a 9-2 league mark.
A native of Spokane, Wash., Strasburg began her coaching career in August 2001 at Riverside High School where she spent three seasons at the helm of the varsity program. Along with her duties at the high school level, she was a head coach at the Spokane Shadow Soccer Club for nearly six years and was named Program Director in May 2006.
A four-year starter as a defender, Strasburg graduated in May 2001 with a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing. She continued her studies and earned a master's in intercollegiate athletics leadership from Washington in June 2010.
