SAN ANTONIO — Behind strong performances from All-Tournament selections Elise Huskey and Kelsey Schwirtlich, the UTSA volleyball team closed out the UTSA Classic with a 3-0 win (25-13, 25-16, 25-18) against Davidson on Saturday evening at the Convocation Center.

Huskey and Schwirtlich each posted double-doubles in the Roadrunners' second sweep in the two-day tournament. Huskey netted 12 winners and a dozen digs, while Schwirtlich dished out 36 assists and notched 12 digs.

Sophomore Whitney Walls added 10 winners, while junior Kelsey Jewasko anchored a strong UTSA back line with a match-high 18 digs.

The Roadrunners (4-6) posted a strong defensive effort with 58 digs and nine total blocks.

Davidson (5-3) received 22 assists from Hayley Lawson and 12 digs from Molly Crenshaw in the loss.

UTSA relied on offensive efficiency in the first frame. The Runners hit at a .406 clip and received six winners from Huskey. After staking claim to a 10-7 lead, the Birds lengthened their advantage behind the strength of an 8-4 run (18-11). After the Roadrunners and Wildcats traded points, UTSA reeled off five consecutive tallies (24-12) behind momentum created from the serving efforts of senior Megan Schauffele. Davidson gained a point following a kill from Christine Perzinski. However, a Wildcats serving error on the ensuing serve closed out the set in favor of the Birds.

The Roadrunners and Huskey continued to apply pressure to the Davidson defense in the second set. The Widcats kept the stanza close in the early going. With the panel knotted at seven, UTSA picked up back-to-back kills by senior Kendra Rowland and Walls. Jewasko followed with an ace, which gave the Roadrunners a 10-7 advantage. UTSA later led 23-16 before a Huskey putdown and Davidson attack error ended the frame.

UTSA raced out to a 7-2 lead following intermission. Davidson battled back to pull within one (10-9), but the Birds quickly increased their advantage to six (18-12) with an 8-3 run. The Roadrunners added to their lead when Jewasko served for three consecutive points (21-15). UTSA then used a 3-0 run to push its lead to seven (24-17), which included a kill by Schwirtlich. After a Davidson score, the Birds finished off the match when sophomore Andee Josserand found an open spot along the far sideline for the final winner of the night.

The Roadrunners, who never trailed in the match, improved to 2-0 all-time against Davidson. UTSA boasted a .330 attack percentage in the win, its best number since swinging at a .376 clip on Nov. 3, 2009, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

UTSA concludes its busy weekend on Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. tilt with North Texas (6-4).
