Locke to leave UTSA for Central Florida assistant coaching position

Courtney Locke helped the women's program to its first NCAA appearance last season.

SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA women’s basketball program announced Wednesday that assistant coach Courtney Locke has left the program to accept an assistant coaching position at Central Florida in Orlando, Fla.

“Courtney did an excellent job with all of our recruiting and helped our program be successful.” UTSA head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair said. “This is a great opportunity for her and we all wish her the best.”

Locke spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at UTSA. The San Marcos native helped the women’s program to its most successful season in 2007-08, as the Roadrunners claimed their first-ever Southland Conference Tournament Championship, NCAA Tournament appearance and a school-record 23 wins.

During her two-year stint, she mentored all-conference guards Monica Gibbs, who earned first-team honors and broke UTSA’s career assists record this past season, and Terrie Davis, a third-team honoree who shattered the school’s 3-point field goals mark.

A national search for a replacement is underway.
