GULF SHORES, Ala. ? Led by sophomore Shelly Martinez' career-best second-place finish (+2/146) in the individual standings, the UTSA women's golf team finished its fall campaign on a high note on Tuesday with a second-place performance at the UAB Beach Blast (305-305=610).
Martinez shot a final-round one-under-par (71) and finished just one stroke behind tournament champion Amber Littman from EastCarolina. The Pecos native shot a one-over-par 146 (75-71) during the two-day event.
"It’s a great way to finish the fall season and end on a high note.” head coach Holly Tothe said. “Individually, the team played very well and made their putts when they needed too. This second-place finish was a great confidence
boost as we head into the spring and start talking about getting our first team win.”
Freshman Janine Fellows collected her second top-10 finish of the fall after carding a 73-75=148 for a sixth-place showing. Junior Laura Baker turned in a 78-77=155 to finish tied for 18th, while junior Allie Jordan and senior Leasan Gouge capped off their tournament in 35th and 45th place, respectively.
