SAN ANTONIO — Senior Jessica Rogers tied the Southland Conference career home run record and sophomore Leanne Risberg had two hits including a grand slam as UTSA won the rubber game over Texas-Arlington, 10-2, Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners improve to 4-2 in the Southland Conference and 9-12 on the season, while the Mavericks fall to 12-10 and 3-3.

UTSA launched three home runs on the afternoon in pounding out 10 runs on 13 hits. Rogers went 4-for-4 with two runs and a run batted in, tying the SLC career home run record held by former Roadrunner Christy Brownlee with her 55th long ball. Risberg was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs, while junior Kourtney Jones had two hits and an RBI and senior Catherine Garza hit her first home run of the year.

Junior Amanda Nikolenko was solid in the circle, striking out four and allowing one earned run on seven hits to run her record to 6-8 on the season.

The Roadrunners struck in the bottom of the first on Risberg’s grand slam just inside the left field foul pole. Jones got the inning started with a one-out single to left, while Rogers and senior Aimee Murray reached on base hits to load the bases for Risberg.

UTSA added a run in the second on a double steal as junior Lindsay Perry, who reached on a fielder’s choice, took home after a throw down to second to catch freshman Rudi Cantu was not in time.

Home runs by Rogers, a solo blast to left, and Garza, a two-run shot to right that scored Risberg, who singled, increased the lead to 8-0 and chased UTA starter Laura Jones with two outs in the third.

UTA got on the board in the top of the fourth on a pinch hit solo homer to left by Brittany Washington. The Mavericks tacked on a run in the fifth on a run-scoring single to left center by Courtni Anderson that scored April Clougherty, who reached on an error.

The Roadrunners forced the eight-run rule in the bottom of the sixth as back-to-back doubles by Cantu and Kourtney Jones set the table for Rogers, who singled up the middle to score Jones with the 10th run of the game.

Laura Jones, who shut out the Roadrunners in game two Saturday, took the loss (4-4), allowing eight earned runs on eight hits. Katie Jones led the Mavericks at the plate, going 2-for-3.
