SAN MARCOS —
Senior Aimee Murray had a double and an RBI, but Shanel Scott went 3-for-3 and scored a pair of runs to lead Oklahoma State past UTSA, 5-3, Friday morning in the opening game of the CenturyTel Softball Classic at Bobcat Field.

The Roadrunners led 3-1 after two-and-one-half innings of play, but the Cowgirls rallied for four unanswered runs to take the season opener for both teams.

Murray put the Roadrunners on the board first, plating freshman Rudi Cantu, who reached on an error, from second with a two-out double into the right field corner.

The Cowgirls answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Scott led off with a bunt single on the third base line, stole second and scored on a throwing error on the infield.

UTSA added a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third. Murray drew a bases-loaded walk to force in senior Catherine Garza, who reached on an infield error. Sophomore Rachel Rackley plated junior Lindsay Perry, who singled up the middle, with a sacrifice fly to right to make it 3-1 Roadrunners.

Oklahoma State responded with an unearned run in the bottom of the third as Scott singled on the infield and later scored from second on an error off the bat of Lauren Kitchens.

The Cowgirls knotted the score at 3-3 in the fourth on another unearned run. Krystle Sanchez drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on a two-out throwing error on the infield off the bat of pinch-hitter Samantha Heinlein.

Oklahoma State took its first lead on the first earned run of the game, which strangely scored on a play involving an error. Scott walked to start the frame and moved to third on a double to left center by Katelyn Bright. Scott broke for home on a ground ball to the right side of the infield by Courtney Totte. Scott scored and Totte reached on the fourth error by the Roadrunners, but Nikolenko worked out of the jam with a couple of pop-ups.

The Cowgirls tacked on an insurance run in the sixth. Emily Blackburn stroked a one-out triple to the gap in right center and scored on a single to left by Sadie Krywicki.

The Roadrunners play Southland Conference rival Texas State in a non-conference game today at 5:30 p.m.
