UTSA drops season opener at SMU

– The UTSA women’s tennis team dropped its season opener, 5-0, at SMU on Saturday afternoon.

SMU clinched the doubles point at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions for the early 1-0 lead.

In singles action, the Mustangs won four of the six matches to pick up their first win of the season. Sophomore Karen Scida lost in straight sets to Natalia Bubien at the No. 1 position (6-0, 6-1), while at the No. 3 slot, junior Tanya Hasking fell 6-3, 6-1 to Claire Rietsch. Also in action were senior Ana Paula Soto Anton at the No. 5 and sophomore Eva Silvester at the No. 6 position. Both lost their matches in straight sets.

UTSA concludes its season-opening road swing on Sunday with an 11 a.m. match at North Texas.
