STILLWATER, Okla. – Junior Keith Spencer recorded his third double-double of the season, but JamesOn Curry poured in 24 points to lead No. 13 Oklahoma State to an 84-47 victory against UTSA on Saturday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Spencer posted 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while junior Melvin Smith led the Roadrunners (4-9) in scoring with 16 points, his ninth straight game in double figures.
Curry drained four second-half, 3-pointers and was one of four players in double figures for the Cowboys (13-1). Kenny Cooper and Terrel Harris added 15 points each, while Mario Boggan had a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.
The contest was tight through most of the first half with four ties, the last on a fast break dunk by junior Andrew Francis following a steal from senior Kurt Attaway that made it 14-all with 10:45 to play. A Spencer layup at the 5:38 mark capped a 6-2 UTSA run that pulled the Roadrunners to within 26-22.
The Cowboys responded with a 16-2 run to end the half, taking a 42-24 lead into the locker room.
OSU quickly put the game out of reach with a 6-0 run to start the second half as Curry scored 16 of his 24 in the period.
OSU shot 55.2 percent (32-58) from the field and out-rebounded the Roadrunners, 39-21. UTSA was 19-of-49 (38.8 percent) from the floor and made just one 3-pointer for the second straight game. The Roadrunners did come up with 13 steals and forced 17 OSU turnovers for the game.
The Roadrunners open Southland Conference play at home next S aturday, Jan. 6, against Lamar. Tip is set for 6 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
