COLLEGE STATION – No. 38 Texas A&M Aggies defeated the UTSA women’s tennis team, 7-0, in a non-conference match on Saturday evening at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
The Aggies improved their mark to 12-10 on the year. Meanwhile, the Roadrunners dropped to 10-10 overall.
Texas A& M began the day by winning all the three doubles matches and take a lead 1-0.
In singles action, at the No. 1 position Nathalie Wallin (left) had a tough match against Anna Lubinsky of A&M that ended up in a super-tiebreak, 7-10, in the third set. Lubinsky won the first set 6-2, and was up 2-0 in the second set, before Wallin evened it up and won the set 6-4. In the super-tiebreak, Wallin was up 4-2, but Lubinsky won the next three points to a take a 5-4 lead and scored a 10-7 decision.
UTSA’s Karen Scida was defeated by Sarah Foster of Texas A&M, 6-2 6-2, at the No. 2 singles. Both Nicik Mechem at the No. 4 position and Marissa Druss at the No. 5 single only lost three games in their matches against Ana Paula Soto and Tanya Haskings of UTSA . Anna Blagodarova of A&M recorded the 6-1, 6-0 victory against Monika Drabkova, UTSA at the No. 3 singles, while Eva Silvester lost a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Seva Iwinski of A&M at the sixth position.
The UTSA women tennis team returns to action on Thursday, April 20 against Laredo JC at 11 a.m. in the UTSA Tennis Center.
