UTSA drops home finale to Southeastern Louisiana, 5-2

SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA women's tennis team dropped its home finale to Southeastern Louisiana, which clinched its first-ever Southland Conference regular season title with a 5-2 victory Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.

Southeastern (17-3, 10-0 SLC) won its seventh straight match and completed a perfect run through the Southland Conference regular season. The Lady Lions won four of six singles matches and swept through doubles play to earn the victory. UTSA fell to 10-8 overall and 6-4 in league play.

The Lady Lions grabbed the doubles point by winning all three matches, including a narrow 8-6 victory for Nina Knavs and Breda Kovac at No. 1 over Tanya Hasking and Karen Scida.

The Roadrunners battled for two singles points, getting victories from freshman Sandra Kukla (right) at No. 2, a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Emilija Arnaudovska, and from freshman Monika Drabkova at No. 4 over Jana Simurkova, a come-from-behind, 2-6, 6-1, 11-9 win.

SLU won the other four singles matches, clinching the win with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 by Kovac over Nathalie Wallin.

UTSA returns to action this Friday, April 14, when they travel to Houston for a non-conference match with Rice at 3 p.m.
