PLANO, Texas – UTSA junior Catherine Garza and sophomore Amanda Nikolenko have been named Aeropostale/Southland Conference Hitter and co-Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Garza batted .625 (5-for-8) with a triple, two home runs and three runs batted in to help lead UTSA to a weekend sweep of Stephen F. Austin. The catcher had two home runs and three RBI in an 11-4 victory on Sunday as the Roadrunners improved to 10-2 in the league. She now is batting .667 in conference play and .524 on the year.
Nikolenko shares co-Pitcher of the Week accolades with Katie Ann Trahan of Texas State. She picked up her third pitching honor of the season after posting a 2-0 record, 0.00 earned run average and eight strikeouts. She tossed a complete-game shutout in an 8-0 victory in game one of the set and came on in relief in game three to earn a win with four scoreless frames.
The Roadrunners now have six SLC weekly honors on the season.
UTSA hosts rival Texas State this Saturday-Sunday, April 1-2, at Roadrunner Field.
