UTSA downs Texas-Pan American, 5-2

SAN ANTONIO – Led by singles and doubles victories from the freshman trio of Sandra Kukla, Karen Scida and Nathalie Wallin, the UTSA women’s tennis team defeated Texas-Pan America, 5-2, Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center.

With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 7-5 on the season and 5-3 at home.

Kukla and Scida combined for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Wallin and freshman Monika Drabkova were 8-4 winners at No. 3 doubles to give UTSA the 1-0 lead. Sophomore Tanya Hasking and Ana Paula Soto Anton also won at No. 2, 8-2.

Playing at Nos. 1-3 singles, Wallin, Kukla and Scida posted easy victories to help clinch the match. Wallin was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Buksik at No. 1, while Scida blanked Mobulac at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. Kukla forced deBourquey to retire in the first set up 4-1..

Freshman Eva Silvester also won in singles play at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0.

The Roadrunners, 3-1 in Southland Conference play, return to league action with a pair of home matches against Sam Houston State and Texas-Arlington this Saturday-Sunday, March 25-26.
