SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA track and field teams captured six individual and relay titles during day one of the UTSA Relays held Friday at Blossom Athletic Center.

Seniors Justin Pitchford and T.R. Sissel (right) and juniors Morgan Moszee and Diane Smith grabbed gold and both 4x200-meter relay teams cruised to victories in a solid showing by the Roadrunners.

Sissel used a strong kick down the final straightaway to overtake Andrew Carruthers and win the 400m hurdles in 51.91. That time qualifies Sissel for the NCAA Midwest Regional in Austin in May, his fourth straight regional appearance.

Moszee leaped to a 19-6 measure to win her second straight UTSA Relays crown in the women’s long jump. Moszee, the conference indoor champion in February who already is qualified for the regional meet, set the meet record last year with a 20-2 Ľ effort.

Smith passed two runners over the final 100 meters to take top honors in the women’s 800m, posting a 2:15.07, while Pitchford led four Roadrunners in the top five with a 1:54.22 clocking in the men’s 800m. The men’s 4x200m was impressive, coasting to a 1:24.69 for top honors. Junior Scott Briscoe, freshman Gaston Griffin and sophomores Steven Brown and Cedric Harris nearly matched UTSA’s meet record of 1:24.40 set last year.

Sophomore Ashley Allen (left) scored 3,003 points in the first four events of the heptathlon to take the overall lead after day one.
