Former Roadrunner standout Steven Brown is in his fifth season as a member of UTSA’s track & field coaching staff. He tutors the program’s sprinters and jumpers and also assists with the team’s 400-meter relay.

Last season saw the UTSA men successfully defend their Conference USA Outdoor Championship. The Roadrunners also finished second at the league's indoor meet and were led by sprinter Dionte Robinson, who was the squad's leading scorer in his inaugural conference championship meet en route to being tabbed C-USA Freshman of the Meet.

Brown helped lead the men to the 2014 C-USA Outdoor Championship in their first season in the league and the women finished second at the indoor meet.

In 2013, he helped guide the Roadrunners men to their eighth consecutive indoor conference title in their lone appearance at the Western Athletic Conference Championships, while the women finished second and just missed their first league crown since 1994. His athletes combined to win five individual league titles (three indoor/two outdoor) and they also set a pair of program records. Eboni Johnson swept the WAC indoor and outdoor triple jump championships, while Roscoe Robinson (outdoor long jump), Ronson Small (indoor triple jump) and Tyler Williamson (indoor long jump) also collected gold medals.

Brown helped lead the men to a Southland Conference indoor/outdoor championship sweep in 2012 and the women recorded their best outdoor finish (second) in 15 years. He also guided Williamson to outdoor All-America accolades in the long jump. After successfully defending his Southland indoor title in his specialty event, Williamson placed second at the league’s outdoor meet and followed that performance with a school record at the NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds, which qualified him for the national semifinals. Brown also helped lead Shahira Ehiemua to Southland Outdoor Freshman of the Year honors. His athletes won a combined three conference championships, collected eight all-league certificates and established a trio of school records in his first season as a full-time assistant. Additionally, a half dozen Roadrunners (four women/two men) competed at the national outdoor meet.

Brown previously served as a member of Aaron Fox’s staff in 2009 when he was the program’s student volunteer coach. UTSA won its fourth consecutive Southland Conference Indoor Championship that season.

A highly-decorated four-year letterwinner from 2005-08, the Mesquite native led the Roadrunners to a total of four Southland Championships (three indoor/one outdoor) during his career, including the program’s first-ever indoor/outdoor sweep in 2008. A two-time Southland Champion and 14-time all-conference performer, he was tabbed the league’s Indoor Athlete of the Year in 2008 after scoring a meet-high 24 points. Brown also was a three-time NCAA All-Midwest Region honoree and he competed in the long jump at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He ranks among the program’s top five all-time performers in four sprint events (indoor 60m & 200m/outdoor 100m & 200m) and both the indoor and outdoor long jump.

Brown is married to the former Cheria Wilson and the couple has a son, Braylon.
