Roadrunners fall to Oklahoma State, 11-3

Box Score

STILLWATER, Okla. – Junior Catherine Garza hit UTSA’s 23rd home run of the season, but Oklahoma State took advantage of six errors in scoring an 11-3 victory over the Roadrunners Thursday at Cowgirl Stadium.

Garza hit a solo home run in the second inning that pushed UTSA’s national-leading total to 23 in eight games, but Oklahoma State limited the Roadrunners to just five hits and forced six errors in the five-inning, run-ruling.

Megan Schwab went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in to lead the Cowgirls. Jamee Juarez and Lauren Kitchens added two hits each as Oklahoma State pounded out nine on the afternoon.

The Cowgirls struck first for two runs in the bottom of the first. Juarez doubled with one out and scored on a Schwab single to left. Schwab later came around to score on an error.

Garza put UTSA on the board with a two-out homer to right in the second, but Oklahoma State answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-1 lead.

Senior Mel Torres doubled to left and scored on a single by junior Aimee Murray in the third. Murray later scored on a single to center by freshman Rachel Rackley to pull the Roadrunners to within 7-3, but that is as close as they would get.

The Cowgirls tacked on two more runs in the third and single runs in the fourth and fifth to put the eight-run rule into effect.

Chelsea Baker (1-3) struck out seven and allowed three runs – two earned – on five hits in a complete-game victory. Sophomore Amanda Nikolenko (3-2) allowed four earned runs on eight hits in the loss.

The Roadrunners return to action next Tuesday, Feb. 21, when they travel to Austin for a doubleheader with No. 4 Texas. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
