Kurt Attaway named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

SAN ANTONIO - UTSA junior guard Kurt Attaway has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First Team for his performance on the court and in the classroom.

Attaway was one of five student-athletes from the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas to be selected to the first team. He also was one of two from the Southland Conference (SLC) as Ryan Bright of Sam Houston State also made the list.

The 2004-05 SLC Student-Athlete of the Year for Men’s Basketball, Attaway carries a 4.0 grade point average in psychology. The Flower Mound, Texas, native is the starting point guard for the Roadrunners and has helped lead the squad to a 9-13 overall record and a 4-7 mark in the Southland Conference. Attaway averages 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game and has posted 65 assists against 48 turnovers. He also has 21 steals and seven blocked shots on the year.

Attaway is a three-year veteran of the men’s basketball team and was named the 2003-04 SLC Freshman of the Year. He also was selected as the UTSA Male Student-Athlete of the Year for each of the past two academic years. He is a five-time member of the Dean’s List and is an active leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Attaway will now appear on the Academic All-America ballot which will be released later this week.
