UTSA concludes non-conference slate Monday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
SAN ANTONIO - UTSA will travel on Monday, Jan. 2, to Corpus Christi, Texas, to take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the American Bank Center, with tipoff at 7 p.m. The game will be the final non-conference contest for the Roadrunners.

UTSA captured the Florida International Holiday Classic title in Miami, Fla. on Dec. 27-28 with wins over Cal State Fullerton (88-76) and St. Bonaventure (76-55). Senior Andre Owens earned the tournament Most Valuable Player honor, while Aldric Reynolds was also named to the all-tournament team.

Coach Carter:
Tim Carter is in his 11th season at UTSA and has a career record of 154-140 (.524) with the Roadrunners and 165-156 (.516) overall . . . He is the winningest men's basketball coach in UTSA history and has the longest tenure . . . He scored his 100th career win on Dec. 1, 2001 over Illinois State and his 100th win at UTSA on Feb. 4, 2002 at Texas-Arlington . . . Carter was named the 1999 SLC "Coach of the Year" . . . He came to UTSA after one season at Nebraska-Omaha. He has served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma (1984), Midwestern State (1984-86), Houston (1986-87), Oklahoma State (1987-90) and Northwestern (1990-94) . . . He has led UTSA to the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and 2004. Carter is 1-2 in games coached against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Home Sweet Home:
Tough to beat in the UTSA Convocation Center, the Roadrunners have an all-time home record of 222-93 (.719) in the Bird Cage. UTSA is 1-1 all-time as a home team at the Alamodome. UTSA is only 3-3 at home this season and does not play at home again until Jan. 14 versus Louisiana-Monroe.
Roadrunners vs. Islanders:
The Jan. 2 game with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will be the second meeting this season between the two schools, with the Islanders defeating UTSA by a 77-59 count on Nov. 30 in San Antonio (see boxscore on page 11). Cedric Smith led TAMCC with 19 points, while Eric Young topped the Roadrunners with 14. The Islanders now lead the all-time series by a 2-1 count.
Working Overtime:
UTSA enters the 2005-06 season with a reputation as a team that is tough to beat in overtime. The Roadrunners are 0-1 this season and 13-8 all-time in extra sessions under coach Tim Carter. UTSA won 10 of the last 12 overtime games.
372 and Counting:
The UTSA men's basketball program now has 372 wins. The Roadrunners have averaged 15.3 wins a season as a program over the first 24 years, and are the winningest program in the SLC over the past 10 years.

Captains Named For 2005-06:
Senior Andre Owens and junior Kurt Attaway have been named team captains for the 2005-06 season. Owens is UTSA's leading returning scorer at 11.2 points per game, while Attaway is a two-year letterman who earned Southland Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2004.

Youth Is Served:
UTSA features a young roster this season with eight players that are either freshmen or sophomores. The Roadrunners started two freshmen (Eric Young and Nkem Ojougboh) in the first seven games. Young has led UTSA in scoring three times already this season.
Quick Starts:
UTSA has started quickly at times this season and has out-scored the opposition 353-348 over the first 20 minutes. The Roadrunners are 4-1 when they lead at the half, with the only exception being the Murray State overtime loss.
Andre The Giant:
Big things are expected this season out of UTSA senior guard Andre Owens. He opened the regular season by leading UTSA with 18 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. The eight assists were a new career-high for Owens, who is a preseason second team All-Southland Conference selection. He scored a career-high 28 points in the loss at New Mexico State. He has led UTSA in scoring seven times and was named the MVP of the Florida International Holiday Classic when he averaged 22.0 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Roadrunners won the tournament title with wins over Cal State Fullerton and St. Bonaventure.
Kurt's Point:
Point guard Kurt Attaway also excels in the classroom where he is the reigning Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year for men's basketball. A member of the Dean's List at UTSA, Attaway currently maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring in psychology.
Off The Pine:
Led by Gabe Bernard's 13 points, UTSA's bench produced 36 points in the win over Angelo State. In the win over Texas-Pan American the bench produced 48 points, led by Chris Thompson's 18. The bench brigade of Bernard, Thompson, Kyile Byrd, Aldric Reynolds, Abe Donlon and Timothy Maiden has been steady in its output. Over the first 10 games, UTSA has averaged 27.8 points per game of production from its bench.
What's Next:
UTSA will open Southland Conference play on Jan. 5 at Southeastern Louisiana against the defending conference champion Lions, with the game tipping off at 7 p.m. in Hammond, La. The Roadrunners will then travel to McNeese State for a Jan. 7 game with the Cowboys.
